Fossil dishes are composed of a black matrix shaped into a circular dish into which ammonites and other fossils are embedded. These can be attractive used as a soap dish or small serving platter in the home.

Ammonite, which means coiled horn, was an air breathing invertebrate. It looked like an ancestor of the squid except its body was protected by a coiled, chambered shell. Ammonites flourished throughout the Mesozoic Era - about 250 million years ago. Considered to be a protective stone that provides stability and structure.
